Peg Shelf
Problem Statement
Design a customizable shelf system that improves the experience of students moving into standardized dorm rooms, making the space feel more personal, functional, and comfortable.
The Accomplishments
-
Led a team through end-to-end product development, from identifying opportunity areas through research and needfinding to final fabrication
-
Conducted two structured rounds of user testing focused on furniture layout preferences and shelf attachment mechanisms. Personally built and presented several early mockups and interviewed users for feedback
-
Fabricated the final prototype using aluminum beams, peg attachments, and fiberboard shelves. Coordinated team efforts in the shop and refined the construction based on real-time testing insights
The Result
Delivered a modular shelf system that allows students to rearrange shelf layouts with ease using the peg-based frame. The system addressed personalization and usability needs surfaced in user interviews and testing.
